Dr Matt Straw to present opening address at Offshore Engineering conference

Norton Straw Consultants, the engineering and management consultancy experts to the global oil and gas industry, are pleased to announce that Managing Director Dr Matt Straw has been invited to present the opening address to the NAFEMS Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) stream at the Institution of Mechanical Engineers' Offshore Engineering 2015 conference in Aberdeen in November (information of the conference is here

Matt has been an active practitioner of CFD for over twenty years, and a leading proponent of its use in the offshore environment.  He has experience of using the technique to solve problems in flow assurance, processing, marine dynamics and hazard assessment.

IMechE Offshore Engineering 2015 is a major new engineers conference in Aberdeen on the 4/5 November 2015.  With three parallel streams over the three days, it is expected to be the biggest engineering technology event for the industry in the UK, and as it's organised by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, all the papers are fully peer-reviewed.

Matt commented "CFD is now widely used in the oil and gas industry, but unlike other engineering disciplines  grey areas exist around best practices and in methods for judging engineering competence.  What the industry needs is a better understanding of the capabilities of the available software, the quality of the output, and the training of the staff.  The current perception is that  different CFD practitioners will produce different answers, and the operators have no way of telling which is correct.  My paper will address the issues, and propose some thoughts on solutions  aimed to ensure this valuable technology is properly used".

Matt previously gave a webinar for NAFEMS on the use of CFD in the oil and gas industry, this can be seen here
