Dr Simon Rees in debate on UK energy security at IFB2016

Norton Straw Consultants, the engineering and management consultancy experts to the global energy industry, are pleased to announce that Projects Director Dr Simon Rees will be participating in a panel debating the effect of UK energy resilience ahead of the UK's referendum on membership of the EU at the International Business Festival in Liverpool.

Dr Rees has commented on energy issues for many years and is currently Chair of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers Offshore & Upstream Engineering Committee.   The committee researches and promotes energy engineering issues, most recently publishing a study into well integrity and the implications for shale gas development in the UK.

The International Festival of Business, in association with the UK government body UK Trade and Investment, runs in Liverpool from the 13 June until the 1 July.  It comprises over seventy different conferences and seminars covering every aspect of UK business.  Dr Rees will be speaking at the IMechE sponsored event, Energy 2016: Risk, Resilience and Cyber Security of Global Supplies.

Dr Rees commented "This is a challenging time for the UK.  Ageing power stations are not being replaced quickly enough and we are increasingly dependent on direct imports of electricity from our EU neighbours.  The effect of any UK exit won't be immediate, but it's another reason why both government and industry should be focussing on the pressing need to address our growing energy generation shortfall".
