Norton Straw assists Viper Subsea diversification plans

Norton Straw Consultants, the engineering and management consultancy experts, have announced the completion of diversification support to leading oil and gas innovator Viper Subsea.

Viper Subsea is a Portishead and Aberdeen based subsea engineering company that provides consultancy and develops products for the oil and gas sector worldwide, and is currently celebrating winning a Queen's Award for Enterprise in Innovation for its ground-breaking V-LIFE Electrical Insulation Resistance Improvement System.  They were keen to explore how this and other technology developed for the offshore sector might be applied in other areas.

Norton Straw's experts have been drawn from a number of different engineering sectors and are often called upon to help companies diversify.  For Viper they were able to identify the defence sector as the best fit, and provided a number of contacts and potential opportunities that are now being pursued.  The two companies are also formally teaming, with others, to provide engineering support to the Ministry of Defence.

Dr Neil Douglas, Managing Director of Viper Subsea, said "We knew we had world-beating subsea technology, but were uncertain about which sectors outside oil and gas offered the best opportunities.  Norton Straw not only identified the most promising sectors but also offered specific guidance on how to do business in those areas, listed projects of interest, and provided specific contacts to discuss them with.  As a result we're now talking about a number of exciting new prospects".

Dr Simon Rees, Projects Director for Norton Straw, added "It's always exciting to explore the capabilities of innovative businesses like Viper Subsea, and match them to our knowledge of other sectors.  In this case it was clear that Viper were well ahead of similar technologies in the defence industry, and we could make clear recommendations".
