IMechE Offshore Digital Technology Report Published

We're really pleased with the publication today of the IMechE Offshore Digitial Technology report, the preparation of which has been led by our Projects Director, Simon Rees. The report was based on the Digital Offshore Seminar held in Aberdeen last year, and attempts to capture the current best practice in the application of digital technology in areas like topsides process, safety, and integrity management. The report makes a number of recommendations to government and industry on the things needed to improve digital offshore...

Expansion means a new Derby office

Norton Straw is delighted to annouce that we have moved to our Derby office to a larger office space, still within the wonderful historic Darley Abbey Mills in Derby, UK.   We have only moved 30m from the Old Steam Engine House (where we had a great 5 years) into our new home in the East Mill and our new purpose-designed space provides us with a wonderful working environment that will accomodate our planned and conintued growth.  Our previous office was always a talking point when our...

Energy and Process Simulation Symposium 2019

Norton Straw presented our views (and case studies) on the role of engineering simulation in structural integrity of oil and gas production and process systems at the 2019 Energy and Process Simulation Symposium in Houston, 21 & 22 May 2019. Bringing together around 150 engineers over two days interested in simulation and modelling across the energy and process industries, this annual event arranged by Siemens Industry Software showcased many interesting presentations on how companies embrace...

Norton Straw presents at Offshore Technology Conference 2019

Norton Straw presented development work in the application of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) for design and operation of produced water separation systems at the 50th Offshore Technology Conference in Houston on May 8 2019. Matt Straw presented a paper titled "Practical Method for Simulating Flotation in Produced Water Systems" co-authored with David Field & Ed Kay from Norton Straw and Prof Simon Lo and Thomas Eppinger from Siemens Industrial Software.  The paper focuses on multiphase flow simulation in separation...

Joe Cowperthwaite joins the Bristol office

Growth continues at Norton Straw Consultants with Joe Cowperthwaite making the long journey from Barrow-in-Furness to Bristol to join the team as an Engineer.  A mathematician by training, Joe has been working in the naval industry for the last few years, specialising in a wide variety of engineering analyses and especially shock modelling. "Moving into consultancy isn't a great change for me", explained Joe, "as I was working as a sort of internal consultant before.  I worked within a team that investigated whole boat response...
