Solving process industry challenges with simulation

We are delighted to be featured in an article published in the June 2017 edition of Chemical Engineering magazine that talks about Norton Straw Consultants' use of engineering analysis and simulation to solve our customers' process system challenges relating to

  • Flow-induced vibration
  • Joule-Thomson cooling

The article written by Mary Page Bailey is entitled A New Mentality in Process Modelling (follow the link for the full article) and is based on a recent interview with Dr Matt Straw from Norton Straw.

The article talks briefly about how we approach problems like vibration and extreme temperatures in process equipment using our engineering knowledge with approaches including

  • Industry recommended practices and guidelines to make initial engineering assessments
  • Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) where we need to fully capture complex flow, pressure and temperature phenomena and distributions
  • Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to assess structural response (often due to flow phenomena predicted), fitness for service or fatigue-life impacts
