Norton Straw is a leading provider of specialist engineering simulation, design, and consultancy support to clients across many industries – including Aerospace, Automotive, Energy, Built Environment and Chemical Process – in the UK and internationally. Our technical work covers everything from using experience judgement and simple hand calculations to detailed simulation and numerical modelling; always mindful of the need to use the appropriate level of analysis fidelity to produce practical solutions for our clients.

As a part of our team, you will play a central role in providing our clients with, design support and verification services, operational troubleshooting, and technical safety assessments.

Thanks to sustained growth in demand for our services, we are looking to recruit engineers with the experience of carrying out Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and Thermofluids analyses to support the further development of our inhouse capability. The position is in our Derby office, located at Darley Abbey Mill.

We are looking for people who:

  • Have a bachelor’s degree (grade 2.1 or above), Masters or PhD or in a relevant engineering, science, or applied mathematics discipline. Preferably with a strong CFD or thermofluids component.
  • Have experience delivering engineering analysis in a consultancy setting and an interest in supporting the development of other junior team members;
  • Familiar with commercial CFD codes (such as STARCCM+ or ANSYS FLUENT) and able to extend their capability to tackle more complex challenges where necessary.
  • Have excellent project management and verbal/written communication skills.
  • Ideally be a Chartered Engineer (or equivalent) or actively working towards chartership status.
  • Like a challenge, are flexible thinkers and aren’t intimidated by unfamiliar problems.
  • Enjoy client and colleague interaction and taking responsibility.
  • Wants the opportunity to work within a growing and dynamic engineering team.
