At Norton Straw, we provide specialist engineering simulation, design, and consultancy support to clients across many industries, both in the UK and internationally. Our technical work covers everything from experience-based advice and simple hand calculations to detailed simulation and numerical modelling; always mindful of the need to produce practical solutions to help our clients.

Thanks to sustained growth in demand for our services, we are looking for engineers with the experience of carrying out engineering analysis ideally in a consultancy environment, and a desire to develop other engineers joining the company. Positions are available across our three offices in Bristol, Cambridge, and Derby.

This role will require you to:

  • Assess complex engineering problems involving structural design, stress analysis and fracture mechanics and adopt or develop suitable approaches to solve them.
  • Lead and develop stress and structural integrity activities within our specialist team of engineers.
  • Interact with customers to identify and develop work scopes to solve their engineering challenges.
  • Support the activities required to find, win, and deliver engineering projects.
  • Deliver engineering consultancy projects across a range of industries and applications.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Can deliver engineering projects independently with awareness of quality, budget, and timescale.
  • Has the desire and ability to lead the development and growth of our structural activity.
  • Relishes working as part of a technically innovative and multi-disciplined technical team.
  • Enjoys customer interaction and taking responsibility.
  • Wants the opportunity to contribute to the wider development of the company.

To be considered for this role you need to have:

  • A degree or post-graduate qualification in a relevant engineering or mathematical discipline.
  • A track record working in industry on defining and delivering projects involving structural design, stress analysis and fracture mechanics.
  • Experience of commercial finite element analysis software, preferably ABAQUS and/or ANSYS.
  • Familiarity with relevant structural integrity assessment and design codes.
