Senior Engineer – Technical Software

At Norton Straw, we provide specialist engineering simulation, design, and consultancy support to clients across many industries, both in the UK and internationally. Our technical work covers everything from experience-based advice and simple hand calculations to detailed simulation and numerical modelling; always mindful of the need to produce practical solutions to help our clients.

Thanks to sustained growth in demand for our services, we are looking for an experienced senior engineer interested in developing a career in technical software development for engineering simulations. Positions are available across our three offices in Bristol, Cambridge and Derby.

We are looking for people who:

• Have a bachelor’s degree (grade 2.1 or above), Masters or PhD or in a relevant engineering, science, or applied mathematics discipline. Preferably with a strong CFD/FEA component.
• Have experience delivering engineering analysis in a consultancy setting and an interest in supporting the development of other junior team members.
• Have working experience of technical software development in C#/C++ or Python
• Familiar with commercial CFD and/or FEA codes (such as STARCCM+, ANSYS FLUENT, ABAQUS, ANSYS Mechanical) and able to extend their capability using user functions where necessary.
• Knowledgeable about of software architecture, testing, deployment, and databases.
• Interested in developing a career in technical software, optimisation, automation, data science or machine learning across a range of applications.
• Have excellent project management and verbal/written communication skills, enjoy client and colleague interaction and taking responsibility.
• Ideally be a Chartered Engineer (or equivalent) or actively working towards chartership status.
• Wants the opportunity to work within a growing and dynamic engineering team.
